Jao Camp is an exclusive Premium Wilderness Camp located on a large remote island in the heart of the Okavango Delta.
Set beneath the canopy of shady trees, each of the nine rooms (which were featured in Architectural digest, March 2002) has been beautifully hand-crafted with thatch and canvas, while en-suite bathrooms with large tubs and double vanities provide that added touch of luxury. Raised walkways link the rooms with the two plunge pools and the boma (for dinner beneath the stars) complemented by wines from the excellent wine cellar. Jao also has a full-time therapist, offering a wide range of massage treatments.
Located on its own island, activities include mokoro (dug-out canoes) safaris and day and night game drives on nearby Hunda Island. The game includes elephant, buffalo, leopard, zebra, hippo, crocodile, huge herds of red lechwe can be seen, followed by their primary predator – prides of lion.
