A member of Luxury Camps & Lodges of the World, Joy’s Camp is an elegant retreat located in the wooded hills of the Shaba Reserve – a district featuring a high percentage of acacia and small palm trees.

Each of the ten sumptuous tented suites is finished individually with Boran and Somali fabrics, and craftwork from the local nomadic tribes. Each luxury tent is uniquely designed and has its own private verandah, ideal for private game viewing as well as relaxing, reading and soaking up the truly wild environment of the Shaba. The Shaba Reserve was the birthplace of Penny, the leopard that became the protagonist of the book by Joy Adamson, The Queen of Shaba, with the camp being situated in exactly the same position as the Adamsons’ former tented campsite. Local species include the Beisa oryx, reticular giraffe and Grevy’s zebra.
